A late-night robbery outside a Fresno restaurant turned violent near North Willow and East Shepard avenues when two suspects allegedly assaulted a man, stole his watch and pistol-whipped him, leaving him hospitalized, Fresno police said.

Officers were called to the restaurant area a little after 9:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of a robbery and assault. When police arrived, they found the victim in the parking lot. Investigators said three suspects were involved in the attack, with two physically assaulting the victim and a third remaining in the getaway vehicle.

Witnesses tried to step in, but police said the suspects brandished a firearm at them, escalating the scene and putting anyone nearby at risk. After the assault, two suspects ran northbound on Willow Avenue and fled in a black Honda Accord, while the third suspect left in the vehicle with them.

The victim suffered head and upper-body injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The case is now centered on identifying the three suspects and determining whether the robbery was a targeted theft or part of a broader pattern of parking-lot attacks in the area.

For diners, workers and nearby businesses in this part of Fresno, the case is a reminder that the risk does not end once the meal is over. A watch can be taken in seconds, and a parking lot can become dangerous just as quickly when a weapon is involved. The details released by police also suggest investigators have a useful starting point: the location, the getaway car and the number of people seen leaving together.

Fresno police are asking anyone with information to contact the department or Crime Stoppers as investigators continue to search for the suspects.
