Tom Steyer Visits Fresno to Address Housing, Cost-of-Living Concerns
Tom Steyer, who self-funded $112M into his governor's bid, held a Fresno town hall Tuesday targeting housing and utility costs in the Central Valley.

Tom Steyer brought his "Shared Prosperity" tour to Fresno Tuesday evening, holding a town hall where Central Valley residents pressed the San Francisco billionaire on housing costs, high PG&E bills, and water policy as his California gubernatorial campaign works to close a polling gap.
Steyer spent the evening hearing directly from Central Valley residents about their concerns, ranging from the rising cost of housing to high PG&E bills and how to make California more affordable.
"My job is going to be to go after housing costs, to go after healthcare costs, to go after electricity, gasoline costs, and to go after food costs," he said.
Water policy emerged as a distinctly San Joaquin Valley preoccupation during the event. Steyer responded to questions on water management by saying, "using water wisely and carefully and fairly. That is the critical issue for the San Joaquin Valley."
Steyer has self-funded most of his campaign, contributing $112 million in his bid for the governor's mansion. Recent polls show him among the top Democrats at around 10%, trailing Republicans Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who polled at 16%.
Steyer had not made it to Fresno the week prior for a gubernatorial debate, but delivered on the town hall Tuesday night, with his campaign keeping the location private and providing the address only upon RSVP.
His campaign framed the Fresno stop as part of a broader effort for Steyer to hear directly from Californians seeking real solutions to the state's housing crisis, skyrocketing utility costs, and threats posed by AI to the workforce. Steyer has blanketed Fresno TV airwaves with his message ahead of the visit.
