Two 15-year-olds were shot and killed in central Fresno just after 1 a.m. Monday when callers began flooding 911 with reports of 10 to 12 gunshots near E. San Jose Avenue and N. Bond Street. A 14-year-old in the same group was wounded, and a fourth teen, 17, escaped unharmed.

Fresno police Lt. Justin Hoagland said the shooting was reported at 1:21 a.m. Officers arrived to find two victims, then located a third nearby, all suffering multiple gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene; two others were transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where one later died. The 14-year-old, originally in critical condition, was subsequently reported stable.

The four teenagers had been out together before the violence unfolded. "They were returning from eating from a couple area restaurants to their friend's house, who lived in the neighborhood, when it appears the shooting occurred," Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said. Detectives say the group was targeted.

Chief Casto acknowledged a gang connection but stopped short of declaring a motive. "There is gang involvement. Whether it was motivated, I don't know," she said. "It's very early, so we don't know the motivation or anything else." Investigators believe a vehicle was involved, but Casto said no images were available to release. No suspect description has been made public.

Detectives were seen canvassing the area around 11 a.m. Monday. The shooting occurred about a block from an elementary school and Hoover High School, according to ABC30.

The two deaths mark the 8th and 9th homicides in Fresno so far this year. At the same point in 2025, the city had recorded four murders. Chief Casto also noted that shooting incidents are running 11 ahead of last year's pace.

Lt. Hoagland said what led up to the shooting remains unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
