Goochland County Sheriff’s Office honors employee with 45 years of service

A 45-year career at the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office now spans an agency that says it serves residents, visitors and businesses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with 911 dispatchers, deputies, investigators and command staff under one roof. That kind of longevity has become a rare institutional memory inside a public-safety office that handles everything from patrol and investigations to community outreach, education and the county’s 9-1-1 call center.

The employee honored for more than 45 years of service represents a stretch of time that has seen the sheriff’s office grow into a more layered operation. Today, the office describes itself as a multi-faceted law-enforcement agency working from 2938 River Road West, Building C, in Goochland, with a mailing address at P.O. Box 29. For county residents, that means one office is responsible not only for field response, but also for the dispatch function that answers emergency calls around the clock.

Sheriff Steven N. Creasey’s own history with the office reflects that continuity. Creasey joined the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office in 1995 after serving as a volunteer firefighter starting at age 17. A lifelong Goochland County resident and Goochland High School graduate, he was elected sheriff in November 2019. His tenure connects the older culture of small-county public safety with the broader service model now in place, where deputies, investigators and 911 staff work side by side.

Goochland County has also made a point of publicly recognizing long service across county government. In October 2024, 40 employees were honored for a combined 360 years of service. In December 2025, another 40 employees were recognized for 370 total years, with awards reaching up to 30 years. The sheriff’s office maintains an awards page for employee recognition and service awards, reinforcing that the county still values the kind of steady, local institutional knowledge that can only come from decades on the job.
