Goochland High FFA Named Superior Chapter, Honored at Virginia Convention in July
Goochland High School’s FFA chapter, with 20 active members, was designated a “Superior Chapter” and was scheduled to be honored at the Virginia FFA State Convention in Blacksburg, the district announced April 15, 2022.

Goochland High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter was designated a “Superior Chapter” and was scheduled to be honored at the Virginia FFA State Convention in July in Blacksburg, Virginia, according to a Goochland County Public Schools news release published April 15, 2022 by Jeremy Raley. The district announcement identified the recognition as part of FFA’s National Chapter Award Program.
The GHS FFA chapter counts 20 active members, and GHS teacher and FFA sponsor Danny Allen attributed the designation to hands-on chapter programs and service in the community. “We’ve participated in community service events, including picking up trash, working with Christmas Mother, holding fall and spring plant sales, and volunteering with Goochland Cares,” Allen said in the district release.
The school’s news item placed the recognition in the context of FFA’s mission in agriculture education. “FFA is the premier youth organization preparing its members for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture,” the release states. The district also quoted program guidance: “The FFA National Chapter Award Program is designed to recognize FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization, according to the group’s website.”
Goochland High’s own social post on the district feed reiterated the recognition and provided sponsor contact information. “FFA Recognition - Before Spring Break, the Goochland FFA Chapter was recognized and will be honored as a National Chapter at the State FFA Convention. This recognition is part of the National Chapter Award Program, which celebrates FFA chapters that actively embody and implement the organization's mission and strategic goals. Huge shoutouts to Mr. Allen (dallen@glnd.k12.va.us) for all of his hard work in making this happen for GHS!” the school post reads, supplying Allen’s email and noting the state convention honor.
Materials supplied with the district announcement also include a broader awards listing in which Goochland appears under a Superior Chapter Award list; that supplemental listing was fragmentary and did not provide a clear year. The district release and school post remain the primary, attributable notices of the chapter’s designation and its planned recognition in Blacksburg.
For follow-up or press materials, Goochland County Public Schools lists its central office at 2938-I River Rd W, P.O. Box 169, Goochland, VA 23063, phone 804.556.5630 and fax 804.556.3847, and the district pointed to sponsor Danny Allen (dallen@glnd.k12.va.us) for chapter-related questions. The announcement framed the designation as part of efforts that “improve chapter operations by growing leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture,” the criteria under which chapters are annually recognized at state conventions.
