Goochland schools showcase countywide arts at festival, concerts and exhibits
Goochland’s arts festival filled the high school auditorium, gym and cafeteria with concerts, exhibits and student-made soup bowls from all five schools.

Goochland High School turned into a countywide arts center as Goochland County Public Schools packed the GHS Auditorium, GHS Gym and GHS Cafeteria with performances, exhibits and hands-on activities for its annual Fine Arts Festival and All-County Concert, “Woven: The Thread of Fine Arts.”
The April 10 event brought together choral performances from Randolph Elementary School, Goochland Elementary School and Byrd Elementary School, along with bands and drama groups from Goochland Middle School and Goochland High School. Guests also moved through a gallery of artwork from every school in the division, giving families a single evening to see how visual arts, music and drama connect across the county.
That cross-grade structure was the point. Instead of isolating one campus or one age group, the festival put all five Goochland schools on the same stage, showing how arts instruction stretches from elementary music classrooms to high school performance spaces. The district said its Fine and Performing Arts Team was recognized as Team of the Year in April, a nod to the people carrying that work across the division.
One of the clearest examples of that pipeline came from GHS ceramic students, whose handmade soup bowls were sold as part of the evening’s community and fundraising effort. The bowls tied classroom work directly to public participation, giving visitors something functional to take home while supporting student art in the process.

The evening also included hands-on activities in the cafeteria, which made the festival feel less like a single concert and more like a schoolwide arts fair. For families with children in multiple Goochland schools, the event offered a rare chance to see performances and projects from younger students, middle schoolers and high school students in one place.
Goochland County Public Schools has said it is one of Virginia’s School Divisions of Innovation, and all five of its schools are Apple Distinguished Schools. In that context, the festival underscored how the division uses arts education as part of its broader identity, not as an add-on. A similar countywide festival was held in 2025 under the theme “Rooted in Expression,” making this year’s program part of an established tradition that keeps growing across the county.
