Goochland Schools Unveil Free Summer Academic Programs for All Grade Levels
GCPS is offering 15 days of free summer instruction for K-8 students starting June 22; registration opens April 17 and closes June 7.

Goochland County Public Schools confirmed free half-day summer programs for students at every grade level, with registration opening April 17 and the first class day set for June 22.
The elementary program, open to eligible students in grades K through 5, runs 15 instructional days at no cost. Sessions go from 7:50 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., Monday through Thursday, between June 22 and July 16, with July 2 observed as a holiday. Breakfast and lunch are available for purchase on-site. The curriculum targets reading and math, the two subjects most tied to grade-level readiness and state assessment performance.
Middle school students qualify for a parallel free program on the same calendar, with a slightly later window: 8:00 a.m. to noon, four days a week across the same three-and-a-half-week stretch. The district ties eligibility to grade promotion standards, which require passing English and math. Students who fell short of that bar get a focused second attempt before the next school year begins.
For high schoolers, the stakes are sharper. The Project Graduation Summer Academy is a four-day intensive built around Standards of Learning remediation and SOL retakes, designed to help students earn or restore verified credits required for a diploma. A student entering senior year short on verified credits has few recovery options; this academy is one of the most direct.
Registration closes June 7. Eligibility forms for the free elementary program will be available starting in April. Enrollment details and program specifics are posted on the GCPS summer programming section of the district's website.
