Goochland’s softball team turned a rough Monday into a quick reset Tuesday night, beating Albemarle 12-1 at Goochland High School and regaining momentum in Jefferson District play.

The Bulldogs came in needing a response after scoring just two runs in their previous game against Fluvanna County, and they delivered one with a much louder offensive showing. Goochland’s team page showed a .542 batting average and a .613 on-base percentage, with no home runs listed, a stat line that points to a lineup built on contact, traffic on the bases and pressure inning after inning. Against Albemarle, that approach produced a result that never looked close on the scoreboard.

The win lifted Goochland to 3-4 in district play, while Albemarle fell to 1-7 and extended its losing streak to five games. The Patriots had already been hit hard by Fluvanna County, losing 21-4 on April 28, and they ran into the same kind of trouble against the Bulldogs. Goochland had also beaten Albemarle 12-1 earlier this season on April 2, and the Bulldogs took another 12-1 win over the Patriots in May 2025, giving this matchup a familiar pattern.

The game was listed as a 6:30 p.m. home contest on Goochland’s schedule, played at the school on 3250 W River Rd. The varsity roster listed 14 players for the 2025-26 season, including Kaylee Markey, Banon Johnson, Adelynn East, Riley McCain, Alexis Thompson, Emma Whaley, Hanna Parrish, Gracie Condrey, Ryleigh Shapiro, Khloe Bryce-Tinsley, Mollie Pickeral, Avery Newman and Kailey Herndon.

For Goochland, the timing mattered as much as the margin. One lopsided loss can linger if the next game starts slowly, but the Bulldogs answered immediately and put Albemarle on the defensive from the start. With the regular season tightening, the 12-1 win stood as a clear sign that Goochland can still dictate games when its offense gets moving.
