Huntington Bank to close Traverse City branch on Fourteenth Street

Huntington Bank is closing its Fourteenth Street branch in Traverse City, shifting walk-in banking away from 613 W. Fourteenth St. and toward other offices in town that the bank says are about a 10-minute drive away. For people who use a nearby teller, ATM or drive-thru stop on the west side of the city, the move means a longer trip for in-person service and a reset of daily routines.

Huntington is closing 13 branches across Michigan as part of routine network reviews. In Traverse City, the branch locator still lists four other offices: Downtown Traverse City at 427 W. Front St., Grand Traverse Mall at 3160 S. Airport Road, Traverse City Campus Plaza at 1227 E. Front St., and Chums Corners at 4205 U.S. 31 S. Huntington also lists a Northern Michigan Mortgage Office at 415 Munson Ave., giving the company one more local presence even as the Fourteenth Street site disappears from the branch map.

The bank said customers at closing branches have another location within about a 10-minute drive. In Grand Traverse County, that time matters most for seniors, cash-dependent customers and small businesses that still rely on quick deposits, change orders and face-to-face problem solving. The Fourteenth Street office sits on a corridor that serves nearby neighborhoods and west-side traffic, so the closure pushes those errands either toward downtown or south to Airport Road and U.S. 31.

Huntington said it will try to place affected employees into other roles within the company. Across Michigan, the bank said it will continue operating 286 branches after the closures, keeping it the largest branch network in the state. The company also says it has nearly 1,400 locations across 21 states after its merger with Cadence Bank, underscoring the scale behind the local cutback.

Timing remains uneven. Reporting from July 13 and July 14 said most of the 13 Michigan closures are slated for Aug. 28, while the Troy West and Traverse City branches are scheduled for November. Huntington’s own branch pages still listed the Traverse City 14 St office as open as of the latest crawl, and the branch page continues to show lobby and drive-thru hours, so the formal shutdown date still needs to be pinned down before the doors actually close.
