Human remains discovered Feb. 20 at about 3:00 p.m. in a wooded area in the 3000 block of Rennie School Road have been transported to the Western Michigan University Medical Examiner’s Office in Kalamazoo for identification and examination, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office said. "The remains have been transported to the Western Michigan University Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and examination. The investigation remains active pending autopsy results and official identification."

The sheriff’s office identified the missing person as Diana Marie Golosh, a 66-year-old woman who lived in Blair Township and was reported missing by family members on Jan. 28. Traverseticker reported that Golosh was last seen Jan. 26 wearing slippers and a gown and that she occasionally used a walker for assistance.

Two individuals discovered what appeared to be human remains and immediately contacted authorities, deputies said in the sheriff’s release carried by local outlets. Deputies and sheriff’s personnel responded to the scene in the 3000 block of Rennie School Road, secured the area and arranged transport of the remains to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo for forensic identification and an autopsy. 9&10news reported the location was not far from where Golosh was last seen.

Law enforcement and the community conducted a roughly four-week search between the Jan. 28 missing-person report and the Feb. 20 discovery. WPBN/WGTU and other local outlets described search teams that included deputies, detectives, organized search teams and community volunteers who worked extensively in Blair Township and adjacent areas during the search period.

Reporting contains a discrepancy over whether the remains have been formally identified. Traverseticker published that "the body was confirmed as that of Golosh." Multiple other outlets and the sheriff’s office release state the remains were sent to Western Michigan University and that identification and autopsy results are pending. The sheriff’s release reiterated that "the investigation remains active pending autopsy results and official identification."

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences and asked for privacy for the family. "The Sheriff's Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Diana Golosh," the release said. "We ask that the public respect the family's privacy during this difficult time." Investigators said additional information will be released as it becomes available and that the case remains active while the medical examiner completes identification and examination.
