Greensboro police investigate van fire after woman was burned
Police closed Boulevard Way near West Gate City Boulevard after a van fire left a woman burned, then reopened the lanes as the investigation continued.

Greensboro police shut down part of Boulevard Way near West Gate City Boulevard Wednesday morning after a van fire left a woman burned, cutting off a busy stretch that connects drivers, nearby businesses and commuters in southwest Greensboro.
The Greensboro Police Department closed Boulevard Way between West Gate City Boulevard and Boulevard Street while officers investigated the scene. GPD Watch Operations described the call as suspicious activity, and authorities monitored the area for public safety as traffic was diverted away from the block.

FOX8 WGHP later reported that the investigation was tied to a van fire after a woman was burned. In the early stages of the response, police had not said exactly what led to the fire or how it unfolded. It was also not immediately clear whether anyone else was hurt, or whether officers had made any arrests or filed charges.
ABC45 later reported that the roadway reopened and lanes were back open after the investigation. That eased the disruption on a corridor that many Guilford County drivers use to move through the area near West Gate City Boulevard, where even a short closure can ripple into side streets and nearby access points.
The incident, reported Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, remained under police review as officials worked to sort out what happened in the van and what prompted the fire. For now, the most immediate effect was the shutdown of Boulevard Way and the public safety response that followed, with traffic flowing again only after police lifted the closure.
