Greensboro’s latest deadly shooting again put West Barton Street under scrutiny, after Laci Brown, 32, died from a gunshot wound and became the city’s seventh homicide of 2026. The killing happened just off Hewitt Street, on a block that has already drawn police attention for violence before.

Officers responded at about 10:01 p.m. Friday to the 1022 block of West Barton Street after a shooting call, and found Brown inside a home with a gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she died. No arrests had been made Friday night, and police said the investigation was ongoing.

The street’s recent history makes the case especially troubling for neighbors and nearby businesses. In December 2025, Greensboro police investigated another deadly shooting on West Barton Street involving 27-year-old Tayvione Adams, adding to concerns that the corridor has seen repeated violence within a short span. Detectives have not said how many shots were fired, whether Brown knew the shooter, or whether the gunfire stayed contained to the home where she was found.

The case now moves through Greensboro’s homicide system, which sits inside the Criminal Investigations Division and handles homicides, suicides, non-motor-vehicle accidental deaths, cold cases and other unattended deaths. The homicide squad works with the Medical Examiner and the Guilford County District Attorney’s Office, and police also say the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team can be part of the broader response when investigators are trying to connect violent incidents.

Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be given anonymously at 336-373-1000, and rewards of up to $5,000 can be paid for information that leads to an arrest. Police say Crime Stoppers coordinates and routes information to the appropriate investigative unit, a setup that can be critical when a case begins with few public details and no immediate suspect.
