Guilford County hosts final 2026 tax reappraisal education session Monday
Guilford County's final tax reappraisal session is 6–7 p.m. Monday at NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center; staff will not discuss individual valuations or tax rates.

Guilford County will hold its final Tax Reappraisal Education Session on Monday, Feb. 16 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center, 3309 Burlington Rd., Greensboro. The Facebook event listed as "Tax Reappraisal Education Session 3" invites residents to "Learn about the impact of taxes on the county budget, how the tax reappraisal process works, if you qualify for a tax exemption, and how to make an appeal."
The county included a clear limitation for attendees: "While we are unable to discuss property tax rates or individual property valuation at our in-person sessions, we are happy to talk through any other questions you might have during the engagement portion." The session is organized by the Guilford County Tax Department and promoted on the Guilford County Government Facebook page.
Guilford's reappraisal materials define the exercise precisely: "Reappraisal is an in-depth process of assigning new values to all the real property in the county at its current market value." The county says "The reappraisal is done for all residential, commercial, and industrial land and structures in Guilford County" and that "The reappraisal does not include personal property such as motor vehicles and boats whose values are adjusted annually."
County guidance stresses that value changes will vary neighborhood to neighborhood. Guilford officials note that appraisers divided the county into approximately 2,500 appraisal neighborhoods and that "Properties will not change uniformly throughout the county. Depending on market conditions and recent sales in your neighborhood, your assessed value may increase, decrease, or remain relatively the same." The Tax Department also says, "In 2026, the Tax Department will provide an online process for all property owners to check the accuracy of their assessed value. Please visit the Guilford County Tax Reappraisal web page after notices are mailed out."
Guilford emphasizes the distinction between assessed value and tax rate: "The reappraisal determines only one of the two components of your tax bill the assessed value. The other component, the tax rate, is set by our elected officials such as the County Commissioners or your City Council." The county adds that "The 2026 tax rates will not be set until June 2026. Elected officials will determine how much revenue will be needed to operate during the upcoming fiscal period that runs from July 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027." Homeowners are advised to "Please notify your mortgage company that your assessed value has changed so they can adjust your escrow account accordingly."
The Facebook event capture showed modest online engagement at the time it was captured - the post was labeled "2d" old, with 33 people marked as interested, 3 reactions and 3 shares. The event listing gives no presenters' names and does not state whether pre-registration is required.
Regional comparisons show different county approaches: Buncombe County reports "All Buncombe County properties will have a new assessed value effective January 1, 2026" after delaying a reappraisal because of Tropical Storm Helene, and provides a "2026 Property Listing Period [of] Jan. 2-Feb. 2" plus an "Ask the Experts" contact option that directs users to select Eric Cregger for community presentations. Harnett County says, "The 2026 reappraisal processes began in January 2024 as field appraisers reviewed over 73,000 parcels of land in Harnett County," and Harnett has scheduled multiple community meetings across January and February 2026 to explain assessments, appeals and mobile home reappraisal details.
Residents planning to attend the Guilford session should go to the NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center, 3309 Burlington Rd., Greensboro at 6:00 p.m. Monday.
