Guilford County Man Charged With Felony Death by Distribution, Held Without Bond
A Greensboro man was arrested nearly two years after 20-year-old Prince Jeremiah Reid died on Cheshire Drive in Pleasant Garden.

James Edward Palmer III, a 40-year-old Greensboro man, was arrested March 12 and charged with felony death by distribution in connection with the May 2024 death of a 20-year-old in Pleasant Garden, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office announced. Palmer is being held without bond at the Guilford County Detention Center and appeared in court Friday at 2 p.m.
Sheriff Danny H. Rogers reported that detectives with the agency's Major Crimes Investigative Unit first responded to the 5800 block of Cheshire Drive in Pleasant Garden on May 11, 2024, to investigate the death of Prince Jeremiah Reid. The investigation stretched nearly two years before culminating in Palmer's arrest Thursday.
The charge against Palmer was obtained with assistance from the Guilford County District Attorney's Office. Felony death by distribution is a North Carolina charge typically applied when someone is alleged to have sold or provided a controlled substance that directly caused another person's fatal overdose.

Reporting on the alleged substance involved has varied. While the Greensboro News and Record stated that authorities say Palmer sold oxycodone to Reid, other coverage referenced fentanyl. The Guilford County Sheriff's Office news release did not specify the substance. The precise drug alleged in the formal charge had not been publicly confirmed as of Friday.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact Detective J. Allen at 336-641-2799 or Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
