Residents and business owners can review and comment on an update to Guilford County’s Solid Waste Management Plan at an open house Monday, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center, 3309 Burlington Rd., Greensboro. The county announced the meetings Feb. 20, 2026 through Guilford County Environmental Services and said “Residents and business owners are invited to attend any time between 6 and 8 p.m.”

Guilford County described the sessions as an “open house, station-style format to allow the community to move through information and speak directly to County staff and the project team, while providing input at their own pace.” The stated purpose is to present the draft plan and gather input that will shape future choices on recycling, waste reduction, trash pickup and yard waste; the announcement repeats that “Feedback is encouraged and will help guide future planning for recycling, waste reduction, trash pickup, and related services, including yard waste.”

The county’s Feb. 20 notice says two public open-house meetings will be held, but only full details for Open House Meeting 1 were published in the available materials. County postings list no date, time or location for Open House Meeting 2. For confirmation of the second session and for meeting materials, residents may contact Guilford County government at 301 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401 during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call the Clerk to the Board at 336-641-5532 for assistance with meeting notices.

The open houses follow a recent history of county-level discussion about solid-waste fees and services. The Guilford County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on Aug. 4, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. in the Old County Courthouse, Commissioners Chambers, 2nd Floor, 301 West Market Street, Greensboro to consider increasing licensed solid waste collection hauler fees in unincorporated Guilford County under Case #2022-402. That earlier hearing requested changes affecting curbside service for 1x/week garbage and 2x/month recyclables, illustrating how service and funding issues have been before county officials in recent years.

Background materials on county recycling and composting programs provide context for items the updated plan may address. The White Street Landfill composting operations are at 2503 White Street, Greensboro, reachable at (336) 373-7657 or (336) 373-CITY, and the Ingleside Compost Facility is at 3001 Ingleside Drive, High Point, at (336) 883-8514. The county also runs a seasonal Christmas tree recycling program that accepts live trees dropped off between December 26 and January 15 at locations including the Guilford County Prison Farm, 7315 Howerton Road, Gibsonville, which lists (336) 449-4720 for directions, and the Piedmont Triad Farmers’ Market off I-40 at Sandy Ridge Road, (336) 605-9157; participants are asked to “remove all lights, decorations, stands and covers” because “Wreaths, garland and artificial trees are not accepted.”

Guilford County’s announcement directs stakeholders to review the plan’s goals and participate at the open houses; online materials and legal notices are posted through county channels. The county web interface reminds users that “State Government websites value user privacy. To learn more, view our full privacy policy,” and that “Secure websites use HTTPS certificates. A lock icon or https:// means you’ve safely connected to the official website.” Environmental Services and the project team will accept feedback during the March 2 open house and at any subsequently published session; county officials have said that input will be used to guide plan decisions going forward.
