Armed suspect Daniel Hunter Martin remained on the run after an Eden home break-in that left one homeowner face-to-face with a shotgun, and Guilford County deputies arrested a Kernersville woman accused of helping him get away.

Rockingham County deputies said the break-in was reported Sunday morning, April 12, around 9:30 a.m. at a home in the Whip-O-Hills subdivision near Harrington Highway and Yonts Road in Eden. Some coverage identified the street as Springwood Drive and the neighborhood as Will-O-Wisp. The homeowner told investigators she had been tending horses when she returned and encountered Martin outside with a shotgun. Officials said no one was injured.

Deputies identified Martin, 33, as the suspect and said he is about 6 feet tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is wanted on warrants including felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony larceny of a firearm. Law enforcement launched an extensive search that included deputies, K-9 teams from Eden, Reidsville and Alamance County, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Eden Police Department.

Investigators also executed a search warrant at Martin’s home in Madison, but he was not found there. Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page said an unmarked detective tried to stop Martin in a white four-door Acura on Highway 65, and the suspect fled at more than 90 mph, turning the chase into a dangerous run along a two-lane road.

Authorities said Martin and Megan Casteen Devaney may have been traveling together in a white Acura TLX four-door previously linked to North Carolina tag LLX-585, later believed changed. Deputies said the vehicle was last seen in the Bethany community near Reidsville, around Highway 65 and Witty Road and near Highway 65 and Highway 7.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office arrested Devaney, 32, of Kernersville, on April 13 in Stokesdale. She was charged with felony aiding and abetting, held at the Guilford County Detention Center under no bond, and later returned to Rockingham County. Officials urged anyone with information about Martin, the Acura or the break-in to call 911, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers. Rockingham County Crime Stoppers said rewards of up to $5,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
