High Point police investigate shooting that damaged three vehicles

Gunfire struck three parked vehicles outside the Walgreens at 2019 N. Main St. in High Point, turning a busy North Main Street corridor into an active crime scene in the middle of the afternoon. Police said no one was injured, but investigators believe the shooting was targeted and isolated based on evidence found at the scene.

High Point police responded at about 2:55 p.m. on June 1 to the store at the corner of North Main Street and Westchester Drive, in the Westchester Square area. Officers said several shots were fired and three vehicles were hit. The department has not announced any arrests, and the case remains under active investigation as report 2026-14710.

The location matters. North Main Street is one of High Point’s main commercial arteries, and the Walgreens sits in a heavily traveled retail corridor where shoppers, employees and drivers move through all day. Even without injuries, shots fired into parked cars can disrupt nearby businesses, unsettle residents and raise immediate concerns about whether violence is spilling into ordinary daytime activity.

Police have not identified a suspect or said what led to the shooting, but the targeted and isolated finding suggests investigators do not believe the gunfire was random. That distinction is important for merchants and drivers who rely on the corridor, because it points to a specific conflict rather than a broad threat to everyone passing through the area.

The investigation comes as High Point police continue to press on violent crime and gun violence across the city. In the department’s 2025 annual report, overall crime fell 9%, but violent crime rose 6% to 441 reports. Detectives investigated five criminal homicides, compared with three in 2024, and officers seized more than 440 firearms. Gun crime, however, decreased 6% last year.
