Jonal N. Hodge, 22, of High Point was shot multiple times inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the Oaks at Silver Ridge apartment complex in the early morning hours of March 18, and the man investigators identified as her boyfriend was dead by his own hand before sunrise.

High Point police received a shots-fired call around 3 a.m. at the complex on the 2900 block of East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The first officer arrived within two minutes and found Hodge suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. The officer immediately began life-saving efforts. Guilford County EMS transported Hodge to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died a short time later.

Witnesses at the scene told officers the shooter was Hodge's boyfriend, who walked up to the vehicle and opened fire.

About four hours later, around 7 a.m., High Point 911 received a separate call about a suspicious person seen entering a shed on Hendrix Street. As officers prepared to approach the shed, they heard a gunshot from inside. They found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later identified him as Adrin K. Rome, 34, of Edenton, and confirmed he was the suspect in the earlier shooting.

No officers were injured at either scene. Detectives say they are not searching for any additional suspects.

High Point police characterized the incident as domestic-related. It is the second criminal homicide in High Point in 2026.

Anyone affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, or elder abuse can contact the Guilford County Family Justice Center at 336-641-7233 or visit its High Point location at 505 E. Green Drive.
