Oak Hollow farmers market opens to support High Point businesses

High Point’s new Oak Hollow Farmers Market opened Saturday at Oak Hollow, giving local growers and makers another place to sell fresh food and handmade goods. The market’s website says it will run from July 25 through Oct. 31, and both vendor and volunteer applications are posted online.

WXII described the effort as one meant to support small businesses and increase access to local products. Yes! Weekly said the market launches this July to bring fresh, locally grown goods to High Point, signaling that the project is aimed at more than a single weekend attraction.

The new market arrives in a city that already has an established farmers market. The City of High Point says the High Point Farmers Market runs from April 18 through Oct. 31 at 901 N. Main St., High Point, NC. The city also lists separate applications for Farmer/Artisan Food Vendors and for Arts, Crafts, and Other Vendors, showing that High Point already has a structured market system in place.

That makes Oak Hollow a second channel for direct sales, not the only one. For growers, bakers and makers, another market can mean another crowd to reach, another place to set prices, and another chance to move inventory without going through a middleman. For shoppers, it adds another stop for local produce and locally made goods in a county where access to fresh food remains a practical concern as much as a civic slogan.

The timing also gives local businesses a broader season to work with. With Oak Hollow scheduled to operate through Oct. 31 and the city’s downtown market running on a separate schedule at 901 N. Main St., High Point now has two different venues competing for the same weekend dollars while widening the overall market for local sales. How well Oak Hollow performs will depend on whether it pulls in enough steady traffic to become a real sales channel for vendors, not just another name on the calendar.
