PTI Launches Gift Card Drive to Support Unpaid TSA Workers
PTI's Kevin Baker launched a gift card drive for unpaid TSA officers; donate $20-or-less grocery or gas cards at the airport's Ted Johnson Parkway office weekdays.

The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority launched a community gift card drive to support TSA officers who have been reporting daily to security checkpoints at Piedmont Triad International Airport while working without pay during the federal government shutdown.
Kevin Baker, executive director of the Airport Authority, said the effort reflects the airport's view of those officers as part of its own team. "They're really dedicated people, and they're still showing up here every day and doing their job with a smile on their face," Baker said. "We just felt like something we could do to help them out as part of our team." He added: "These officers show up every day to keep travelers safe, even during difficult circumstances. This is a simple way for our community to show appreciation and help support the men and women who continue serving during the shutdown."
Airport officials noted that many of the TSA employees stationed at PTI are Greensboro-area residents managing household expenses without a paycheck. For some, the financial pressure is compounded by the fact they are still recovering from the strain of the last federal shutdown.
Donated gift cards must be $20 or less and should come from grocery stores, gas stations, or similar retailers. The Airport Authority cannot accept cards carrying the Visa, MasterCard, or American Express logo. All collected cards will go directly to local TSA management for distribution to employees working at PTI.
Drop-offs are accepted Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority office on the departure level inside Door No. 4 at 1000A Ted Johnson Parkway, Greensboro, NC 27409. The drive will continue for as long as it is needed, according to airport officials, who are encouraging community members, businesses, and organizations to participate. The main airport line is (336) 665-5600.
