16-year-old charged with capital murder in Cloverleaf killing of Jayden Ford
A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with capital murder after 17-year-old Jayden Ford was found shot at a Cloverleaf apartment complex on Uvalde Road; deputies say the scene followed an attempted robbery.

Cloverleaf deputies announced the arrest of a 16-year-old male on a capital murder charge in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Jayden Ford after a Feb. 5 incident at an apartment complex on Uvalde Road near Woodforest Boulevard and south of Wallisville Road. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the teen was taken into custody on Friday and booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
Harris County Sgt. Sidney Miller described the scene as a group of teens gathered outside the complex around 5 p.m. that day. Miller said Ford “was hanging out at the complex with another group of teens in a crowd, a few of whom were wearing hoodies and masks.” Investigators reported that “an altercation broke out and someone pulled out a pistol, shooting Ford,” and that “after the shots were fired, the crowd scattered and fled the scene.” Ford was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead; KHOU identified him as a recent North Shore grad.
Authorities characterized the episode as robbery-related. Investigators said the shooting appeared to be an attempted robbery and that several teens ran from the scene after the shooting, though HCSO has not disclosed any additional suspects. A Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) unit led the arrest with assistance from HCSO K9 teams and the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the sheriff’s office posted an arrest update on social media identifying the victim as Jayden Ford (17) and stating that VCAT “with assistance from @TxDPS and HCSO K9, arrested a 16-yr-old male, charged with Capital Murder in the shooting death of Jayden Ford. The motive for…” (post truncated).

Click2Houston noted that “The teen suspect, who has not been identified because he is a minor, was taken in by the HCSO Violent Criminal Apprehension Team with assistance from HCSO K9 teams and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He has been booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center on a capital murder charge.” HCSO and investigators said the probe remains ongoing; officials have not released a weapon description, named any other suspects, or indicated whether prosecutors will seek to transfer the juvenile to adult court.

The sheriff’s office and local media shared the arrest on social platforms; a FOX 26 Houston post about the case showed 86 reactions, 14 comments and 9 shares and included community responses such as “so good to hear, couple less to worry about” and “Another failure in parenting...charge and arrest the parents too.” Investigators continue to seek footage, witness statements and any surveillance that could clarify who else was involved in the Cloverleaf shooting.
