Barnes & Noble Katy store opens Jan. 28 with ReShonda Tate ribbon-cutting
A nearly 22,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble will open in Katy Jan. 28 with a ribbon-cutting by ReShonda Tate, family activities, and promotions that aim to make it a local community hub.

A nearly 22,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble will open at 435 S. Fry Road in the Greentree Shopping Center in Katy, creating a new retail and community destination for West Harris County residents. The grand opening celebration will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 and will feature a ribbon-cutting hosted by local author ReShonda Tate, who will sign copies of her latest book.
The store’s layout and programming are designed to serve a range of readers and families. Features include a B&N Café, curated book sections, dedicated children’s and young-adult areas, and local community programming. Family-friendly activities at the opening include an appearance by the children’s character Llama Llama, positioning the location as a place for events as well as retail.
Barnes & Noble has framed the Katy store as part of its renewed expansion plans, and the company is backing the opening with several grand-opening promotions aimed at driving foot traffic and membership engagement. Promotions include double reward stamps for members, discounts on NOOK devices, and reductions on movies and media. Those incentives are likely to increase short-term sales and encourage repeat visits as the store establishes itself in the neighborhood retail mix.

For the Greentree Shopping Center and nearby commercial corridors, the arrival of a large national bookseller could shift local shopping patterns. A nearly 22,000-square-foot tenant brings sustained daytime and evening traffic that benefits adjacent restaurants and service businesses, especially on weekends and during scheduled events. The B&N model, combining retail with café space and in-person programming, is meant to create longer customer dwell times, which can translate into higher average baskets for neighboring merchants.
Community programming and dedicated children’s space also address local demand for family-oriented activities. For parents in Katy and surrounding neighborhoods, the store offers a new venue for author visits, readings, and youth programming without traveling into central Houston. The presence of ReShonda Tate, a local author, at the ribbon-cutting underscores an effort to tie national retail presence to neighborhood-level cultural life.

The opening on Jan. 28 provides immediate opportunities for residents: attend the 10 a.m. ceremony, take part in family activities, and use grand-opening promotions on memberships and media. Over the longer term, the new Barnes & Noble site signals a continued investment in brick-and-mortar retail in West Harris County and a potential increase in community events centered on books, learning, and family programming.
