A woman was killed in a hit-and-run on the 6500 block of Will Clayton Parkway near George Bush Intercontinental Airport after police said at least two vehicles struck her around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 3.

Houston police said a witness saw the first vehicle, described as white, hit the pedestrian and speed away. A second vehicle then came through the area and struck her as well. That driver later returned to the scene after realizing a person had been hit, stayed with officers, and showed no signs of intoxication, investigators said. Houston Fire Department personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name had not been released.

The case is being investigated as a failure to stop and render aid, a charge that keeps the focus on finding the first driver and tracing where the vehicle went after the collision. The crash happened in a corridor that carries airport traffic, rideshare vehicles, employees, travelers and overnight drivers at all hours, making witnesses and any nearby video especially important to the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward so investigators can reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the fleeing vehicle.

Houston police’s Vehicular Crimes Division handles fatal crashes and failure-to-stop-and-render-aid cases, and the department’s Hit and Run unit is responsible for on-scene and follow-up work in these investigations. In similar fatal hit-and-run cases, Crime Stoppers of Houston has offered rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging or arrest of a suspect. Tips can help investigators connect a vehicle to the crash route and confirm who was behind the wheel before the driver disappeared into the north Harris County roadway network.

The crash adds to a grim traffic picture in Houston. The city recorded 301 traffic deaths in 2024, the highest annual total on record, according to TxDOT-based reporting by Houston Public Media. Before that, the city’s previous high was 295 deaths in 2021. Along Will Clayton Parkway, a road many residents use to reach Bush Airport and surrounding neighborhoods, Sunday’s fatal collision underscored how quickly an ordinary overnight drive can turn into a homicide investigation.
