Girl critically injured in north Harris County mini-bike crash
A teenage girl on a gas-powered mini bike was critically hurt on Ella Boulevard near Wied Road and later died after being rushed to the hospital.

A teenage girl was critically injured and later died after a crash involving a gas-powered mini bike on Ella Boulevard near Wied Road in north Harris County, forcing deputies to shut down northbound traffic and investigate a scene that snarled the morning commute in Spring.
Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s office said the crash involved a juvenile female riding a gas-powered mini bike that collided with a vehicle near the busy roadway. Emergency crews took the girl to a nearby hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. The constable’s office first posted about the crash at 8:26 a.m. on May 15, 2026.
Northbound Ella Boulevard was closed while investigators processed the scene. One report said the shutdown extended near Louetta Road, and drivers were told to expect significant delays and avoid the area. The closure came on a stretch of road already familiar to north Harris County commuters, where traffic can back up quickly when lanes are blocked.

Later, KHOU 11 reported that the teen girl died from her injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Herman asked the public to keep the victim’s family and loved ones in their thoughts as the investigation continued.
The crash also raised questions that matter well beyond one intersection: how mini-bikes and other small off-road vehicles are ending up on major county roads, and what that means for children and families traveling through neighborhoods built for cars, not gas-powered bikes. In this case, authorities had not released additional details about how the mini bike entered traffic or what led to the collision.

Under Texas Transportation Code §550.062, officers investigating qualifying crashes must submit a written report to TxDOT within 10 days. TxDOT says those crash reports are confidential and are not available for online public viewing, leaving much of the official record out of public reach as investigators work through what happened on Ella Boulevard.
