Harris County Assistant DA Gabriel Kabak Arrested in Panorama Village Strangulation Case

Gabriel Sam Kabak, 32, an assistant district attorney with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, was arrested on a charge of family violence - impeding breath/circulation (strangulation) following an alleged incident at a child’s birthday party in Panorama Village. Booking records posted by the Panorama Village Police Department list a booking date and time of 2/22/2026 at 8:24 p.m. and show Kabak was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

ConroeNews reported that the alleged victim - described only as “a woman” and in at least one account as “a family member” - told authorities that Kabak “pushed her, forced her against the side of a home, and grabbed her by the throat, resulting in pain and a temporary inability to breathe.” Multiple party attendees reportedly intervened to separate Kabak from the woman and from children at the gathering before officers arrived.

The Panorama Village Police Department’s booking entry lists Kabak as “KABAK, GABRIEL SAM,” Inmate ID 710904, age 32, height 5'09", weight 275, eye/hair color BRO, and the arresting agency as “PANO.” The charge is recorded under Statute Code 13990076 22.01(b)(2)(B) with the description “ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT,” and the PD post reiterated: “As with all individuals charged with a criminal offense, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Accounts differ on the time officers took Kabak into custody. ConroeNews reported authorities took Kabak into custody “at approximately 5 p.m.,” while KHOU reported the Panorama Village Police Department said Kabak was taken into custody “around 8 p.m. on Sunday.” The PD’s booking record provides the concrete timestamp of 8:24 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2026. ConroeNews also noted that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office sent a Panorama Village officer to the location and that a unit from the Texas Game Warden arrived, language that the PD booking entry identifies PANO as the arresting agency.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to KHOU that Kabak is no longer employed with the office as of Monday; “They declined to comment further on the matter.” KHOU’s reporting and the DA’s organizational chart indicate Kabak worked in the special victims bureau, specializing in adult sex crimes, and state bar records show he received his Texas State Bar license in 2022.
