Harris County Deputy Injured in Greenspoint Crash With Suspected DWI Driver

A Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy was taken to HCA Northwest Hospital with minor injuries early Monday after a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and struck her marked patrol vehicle at the North Beltway 8 Tollway and Imperial Valley Drive in the Greenspoint area.

The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. The deputy was driving westbound on the tollway when a northbound driver on Imperial Valley Drive failed to stop at the red light and hit her SUV. A witness at the scene told investigators the deputy had the green light at the time of impact.

Sgt. A. Kamali of the HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division said deputies immediately launched a DWI investigation after the collision. The other driver, who showed no signs of physical injury, was evaluated on the scene. "He displayed signs of intoxication, and after they conducted an FST (Field Sobriety Test) ah, he was placed in custody for suspicion of DWI," Kamali said.

Kamali confirmed the two drivers were the only occupants in either vehicle. The deputy's injuries were described as minor, and she was being checked out at HCA Northwest Hospital overnight. The other driver did not require medical attention.

Harris County authorities have not publicly identified the deputy. No name or identifying details for the suspected driver have been released. Whether formal charges will be filed remains unclear, with Fox26 noting the question of official charges was unresolved as of early Monday.

The HCSO Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing its investigation into the crash.
