A Galena Park ISD school bus crash on Uvalde Road sent at least two people to the hospital and left parents in east Harris County with immediate questions about who was injured, whether students were on board and how safe this stretch of road is during pickup and drop-off traffic.

The crash happened Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, in the 6700 block of Uvalde Road and involved a Galena Park Independent School District bus and two other cars, according to the Harris County Constable Precinct 3 Office and ABC13 Houston. Precinct 3 officials said the case remains under investigation as they work to determine fault. They also said it was not yet clear whether the people taken to the hospital were students or whether the bus was operating in its normal school-transport role at the time.

ABC13 later reported that its SkyEye helicopter saw no law enforcement or emergency personnel at the scene during a later flyover, after the immediate response had cleared. The condition of the hospitalized people was not immediately released.

The crash puts a spotlight on a basic expectation for families in Galena Park: that the ride to and from school is controlled, predictable and safe. Galena Park ISD’s transportation department says its mission is to provide safe, timely, efficient and courteous service to students, families and district partners, and the district directs transportation questions to dispatch at 832-386-2720.

The timing also lands against a broader school-bus safety picture in Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation reported 2,480 crashes involving school buses statewide in 2024, with 11 people killed and 93 seriously injured. Driver inattention and speed were the top contributing factors in those crashes. TxDOT also recorded 781 traffic crashes in Texas school zones that same year, a reminder that the danger around campuses and bus routes is often tied to routine commuting patterns, not rare disasters.
