Harris County investigates shooting death of man found in Katy garage
A man in his mid-20s was found shot multiple times inside a Katy garage, and deputies say two men drove him there after the shooting.

Harris County investigators say the public should not be looking for an active threat after a man was found shot to death inside a garage in Katy, but they are still trying to piece together where the shooting happened and why help was not called sooner.
Deputies responded around 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to the 500 block of Everington Drive, near Kingsland Boulevard and Grand Parkway, after a 911 call from a home in the Katy area. Inside a garage, investigators found a man believed to be in his mid-20s slumped in the passenger seat of a car. He had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting likely happened somewhere else before the victim was driven to the home. Investigators believe two other men brought him there, including a 23-year-old driver who left before deputies arrived. The sheriff’s office said the man’s identity has not been released.
Inside the home at the time were the 911 caller and her 23-year-old son. After interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence, investigators said they found inconsistencies in the son’s account. A search warrant later uncovered incriminating evidence inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives are now questioning the men who drove the victim to the house and trying to determine why police were not called immediately after the shooting.
The case is now being investigated as a homicide. Authorities have not said whether any arrests have been made or whether any suspects are actively being sought. Even so, the sheriff’s office said it does not believe there is a danger to nearby residents in the Katy neighborhood.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, founded in 1837, is the largest sheriff’s office in Texas and the third largest in the nation. Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
