A Houston middle school student was left facing bullying after a restroom dispute at a Sunnyside gas station turned into a public humiliation case that spread far beyond 4420 Bellfort Ave. The family says the boy stopped at Fuel Depot after school and asked to use the restroom, was told it was out of service, and then went behind the building, where surveillance cameras recorded what happened next.

What began as a stop along Bellfort Avenue quickly became a schoolyard problem. The family says the video did not stay inside the store or inside the moment. Instead, it circulated widely, was shown to students from a phone, and was later printed and posted in ways that intensified teasing at Attucks Middle School and Alcott Elementary School. Family members say the child became so upset that he no longer wanted to attend school.

The boy’s grandmother took the case to police, and the Houston Police Department’s Crimes Against Children unit is reviewing it. Police have not confirmed the allegations or announced charges. The case has drawn attention because it involves not just a dispute over restroom access, but the handling of footage involving a minor and the lasting damage that can follow once that material moves through a community.

That concern was on display at Fuel Depot on April 29, 2026, when Quanell X and Dr. Candice Matthews led a protest outside the store. Houston Stringer identified the business as Fuel Depot at 4420 Bellfort Ave, between Scott and Cullen. Employees at the scene said the owner was on his way, but he did not appear during the protest.

The legal backdrop adds another layer. Texas Health and Safety Code Section 341.061 says an operator of a filling station shall provide and maintain sanitary toilet accommodations. Another state law, Section 341.069, requires certain retail establishments to allow restroom access for customers with qualifying medical conditions under specific conditions. The Texas Department of State Health Services says its Public Restrooms program helps ensure sufficient restroom facilities where the public congregates and can investigate or refer complaints about public restroom facilities when appropriate.

For the family, the issue now reaches beyond the gas station itself. The complaint is not only about whether a restroom was open, but about how a minor was treated afterward, how the recording spread, and whether adults at the store and in the school pipeline failed to stop a humiliation that has kept a Houston boy from wanting to go back to class.
