A male bicyclist struck by a southbound black Mercedes-Benz C-Class in the 7500 block of Synott Road died the following day, and his identity remains unconfirmed as HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division continues its investigation into the late-night crash.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the bicyclist to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on Thursday, March 19. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has not yet verified his identity.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Investigator L. Ho stated that the Mercedes was heading south on Synott Road when it struck the bicyclist, whose direction of travel at the time of the crash remains unknown. "The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released," Ho said in an HPD statement issued March 20 under incident number 035735726-N.
No charges have been reported against the driver as of the department's latest update. HPD has not released information on a precise crash location within the 7500 block, road conditions, the presence of witnesses, or whether surveillance footage is under review. Toxicology results, which would formally address the question of driver impairment, have not been reported.
The investigation remains open. Anyone with information is asked to contact the HPD Office of Community Affairs at 713-308-3200.
