Lightbridge Academy Opens $3.5 Million Childcare Center in Cypress, Adding 40 Jobs
Lightbridge Academy's $3.5 million Cypress center at 8742 Barker Cypress Road opened this week, bringing up to 40 childcare jobs to one of Harris County's fastest-growing suburbs.

A $3.5 million childcare facility built specifically for Lightbridge Academy opened at 8742 Barker Cypress Road in Cypress, bringing the early-childhood education franchise's Houston-area footprint to three locations and adding up to 40 teaching and staff positions to one of the region's most rapidly growing suburban communities.
The 14,600-square-foot center serves children from six weeks old through prekindergarten, with a curriculum anchored in early literacy and STEAM preparation, covering science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Extended-hour care and optional meal plans round out the offerings, features the chain specifically designed for working families who need consistent programming beyond standard school hours.
Lightbridge Academy, founded in 1997, already operates two Houston-area locations, both in Katy. The Cypress center is the company's third local investment and reflects a deliberate regional strategy of targeting suburban growth corridors where young families are concentrating. Northwest Harris County, where Cypress sits, has absorbed substantial residential development over the past decade and carries one of the county's densest concentrations of households with young children.
The project drew on out-of-state expertise: New Jersey-based DNA Architects handled the building's design, while Connecticut-based First Hartford served as general contractor. The approximately $3.5 million development cost was disclosed in a state filing.
For Harris County, where childcare access has been a persistent pressure point as more families return to full-time, in-person work, the new center adds meaningful capacity to a market still catching up with population growth. The 30 to 40 positions Lightbridge Academy expects to fill cover teachers, teaching assistants, and administrative staff, a payroll footprint that compounds the facility's local impact well beyond its enrollment numbers.
The Barker Cypress Road site also stands to relieve enrollment pressure on nearby childcare centers, with extended-hours and summer camp programming giving families along that corridor scheduling flexibility that a standard single-shift facility cannot match.
