Daundra Navajo, a 27-year-old Houston man, was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after his black Yamaha motorcycle was struck by a red Dodge Caravan in the 7500 block of Almeda Road near Hepburn Street, according to the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division.

The crash unfolded around 4:40 p.m. when the Dodge Caravan pulled away from a stop sign at Hepburn Street and into the path of Navajo's motorcycle, which was traveling northbound on Almeda Road. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Navajo deceased there.

The driver of the Caravan, an 86-year-old woman, remained at the scene following the collision. The HPD Drug Recognition Unit evaluated her and determined she was not under the influence. She was questioned and released. Investigators said they do not yet know whether speed was a factor in the crash.

The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact HPD.

Saturday's collision comes against a grim backdrop for Texas roadways. The Texas Department of Transportation reported that nearly 600 motorcyclists were killed across the state last year, and Houston Public Media has reported that Houston recorded its highest number of traffic fatalities in 2024. TxDOT has urged drivers to use extra caution at intersections and when turning, noting that judging a motorcycle's speed and distance is difficult even in normal conditions.
