Neighbors along Laura Koppe Road near Homestead Road had been calling police for weeks about gunfire, screeching tires, and late-night disturbances tied to a building in the 6500 block. Early Saturday morning, HPD's Northeast Division finally moved in.

Officers arrived around 2:15 a.m. and found between 75 and 90 people gathered outside the venue. As police approached, many of those people ran inside the building. Officers executed a search warrant on the structure and shut down what HPD describes as an illegal after-hours club operating without proper permits. One man was taken into custody in connection with the business; his identity and any charges against him had not been released as of Saturday morning, and the investigation remains active.

HPD Captain Jonathan French made clear the action was a direct response to sustained community pressure. "The citizens of this Northeast area, of this neighborhood in particular, are tired of the late nights. Tired of the screeching tires. They're tired of gunshots happening, crime and other related incidents that happen because of these late-night clubs that are operating without a permit," French said.

At least one neighbor told ABC13 the problems had persisted for months, not just the weeks referenced in HPD's account of complaints received. That neighbor, who asked not to be identified, described the situation bluntly: "My desire is that somebody would come here and decide, 'OK, enough is enough, let's shut this down because it's too dangerous.'"

HPD has not confirmed what evidence was seized during the search, whether additional citations were issued, or whether city permitting or code enforcement authorities have taken separate action against the address. The name of the detained man and the specific charges he may face remain undisclosed.

Residents who want to report suspected after-hours clubs can contact the HPD Vice Division at (713) 308-8600.
