Southwest Crew Discovers Civilian Taser on Hobby Airport Flight, Passengers Re-Screened
A civilian taser found aboard Southwest Flight 28 at Hobby Airport forced all passengers to deplane and delayed the Houston-to-Dallas route by roughly two and a half hours.

A Southwest Airlines crewmember discovered a civilian-model taser aboard Flight 28 at William P. Hobby Airport on March 12, prompting the captain to order every passenger off the plane and back through TSA screening before the aircraft could depart for Dallas Love Field.
A law enforcement source told KPRC 2 that the device was a civilian model and did not belong to a law enforcement officer. Southwest Airlines confirmed it was treating the situation as a "security incident." No arrests or charges were reported in connection with the discovery, and no information was released identifying who left the taser on board.
Houston Airport System staff and law enforcement escorted passengers off the aircraft after the find. TSA agents then screened travelers again before allowing them to reboard. The plane did not depart until roughly two and a half hours past its scheduled departure time, according to local reporting. Passengers also said additional screening continued after the flight landed at Dallas Love Field.

The incident landed at an already strained moment for Hobby. The airport had been dealing with longer checkpoint lines tied to a spring-break passenger surge and reduced TSA staffing in recent days. FOX 26 Houston reported that Hobby had been urging travelers to arrive early because screening lanes had at times been reduced, a warning that proved well-founded for the passengers stuck aboard Flight 28.
Outstanding questions remain unanswered as of publication: which law enforcement agency is handling the matter, whether the taser was turned over to authorities, and whether anyone faces criminal exposure. Southwest has not released a full written statement beyond the "security incident" characterization, and TSA has not issued any public comment on the re-screening procedures or whether a federal report was filed.
