Susan Wright arrested in northwest Harris County hit-and-run crash
Susan Wright, now using the maiden name Wyche, was arrested after a hit-and-run near Cutten and Theall roads, reviving memories of her notorious northwest Harris County murder case.

Susan Wright, now using the maiden name Wyche, was arrested after a hit-and-run crash near Cutten Road and Theall Road in northwest Harris County, putting one of the county’s most recognizable defendants back in the spotlight. The collision happened Thursday morning near Willowbrook Mall, where a witness said rain was falling when Wright turned onto Theall Road and struck a green Kia Sportage.
The Kia was pushed into a ditch, and the driver estimated about $7,000 in damage. Court papers listed at least $200 in damage to Wright’s white Toyota Camry. Deputies later found the Camry at Wright’s workplace, about a half mile away on Theall Road. Records say Wright admitted she had been involved in the crash, but said she did not see the Kia after impact and believed it had already left the scene. She also reportedly said she did not call 911 because she was traumatized by police involvement after a domestic dispute the previous weekend.

The new arrest does not reopen the murder case that made Wright a national name, but it returns her to the criminal justice system in the same part of Harris County where her story first became known. Wright was convicted in 2004 in the killing of her husband, Jeffrey Wright, after historical coverage said he was stabbed 193 times and buried behind the couple’s northwest Harris County home. She served 16 years in prison and was released on parole in 2020, leaving the Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville at about 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2020.

Her latest arrest is drawing renewed attention because it ties a familiar local name to a more routine, but still serious, roadway allegation. The crash happened in the Willowbrook area, a stretch of northwest Harris County that regularly appears in traffic and crime reporting, and hit-and-run cases remain a road-safety concern tracked through Texas crash-reporting records. For Harris County, the story now sits at the intersection of a notorious past and a new accusation on a busy shopping corridor.
