Early this morning Harris County deputies answering a burglary call at a business in the 14900 block of Sellers Road in Aldine encountered gunfire when a male suspect allegedly opened fire on the arriving units, officials said. Deputies returned fire during the exchange and no deputies were injured.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office posted preliminary details on its official Twitter account noting deputies responded to a reported burglary in the 14900 block of Sellers, and that upon arrival a male inside the location allegedly began firing at deputies. MyTexasDaily reporter Matt Richards wrote, “It remains unclear if the suspect was hit, but no deputies were injured, stated the sheriff's office,” reflecting the initial uncertainty in early reports.

After the shooting the suspect fled the business and forced entry into a nearby trailer home in the 14900 block of Henry Road, where a family was inside, deputies said. HCSO described the trailer occupants as two adults and several young children; both adults were secured and exited the residence while the children initially remained inside with the suspect. Christian Hudspeth, Logistics Coordinator, described the rescue and arrest: “Our deputies acted swiftly, decisively, and with remarkable restraint. After securing the adult occupants, they made entry to safely remove the children and take the suspect into custody.”

When deputies entered the trailer they found the suspect with gunshot wounds and transported him to a hospital in fair condition, the sheriff’s office said. Aggregated HCSO reporting stated the man was “found with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in fair condition with pending charges.” Sources varied on whether the wounds were sustained during the initial exchange; early accounts left that question open while later reporting noted the suspect had possible gunshot wounds when taken into custody.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez released a statement after the incident, and HCSO’s initial tweet framed the account as preliminary; the statement’s text has not been included in the reports provided. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name, the specific charges that will be filed, the hospital where he is being treated, or a definitive forensic determination of whether his injuries resulted from deputies’ return fire.

The incident in Aldine on Feb. 21, 2026 turned an attempted business burglary in the 14900 block of Sellers Road into a barricade at the 14900 block of Henry Road that put children at risk before deputies secured the scene and removed the youngsters without reported injury. Investigators with HCSO continue to process the scene and review body camera, dash camera and other evidence as the criminal case and medical evaluation proceed.
