SWAT Standoff Near Washington Avenue Lasts Hours, One Person Shot
A shootout at a short-term rental condo near Center and Studemont streets escalated into a nearly 11-hour SWAT standoff on March 21, leaving one woman shot.

A shooting at a condominium on Center Street near Studemont Street and Washington Avenue triggered an hours-long SWAT standoff on the morning of March 21, with Houston Police Department tactical units holding the scene until shortly before 4 p.m.
HPD received a call around 5 a.m. referencing a shooting at the property near Center and Studemont streets. An investigator placed the start of the incident slightly later, saying the shootout began at a short-term rental at approximately 5:30 a.m. One person was shot and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; she is expected to recover.
Other occupants exited the property after the initial shooting, but a suspect remained barricaded inside, prompting HPD to call in SWAT. The standoff stretched through the morning and into the early afternoon before the SWAT team left the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Several people were questioned at the scene during that span.
As of the time reports were filed, no one involved in the incident had been identified and it remained unclear whether any arrests had been made. HPD had advised anyone traveling through the Washington Avenue Corridor that morning to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
The condominium sits in a stretch of central Houston where Center Street intersects with Studemont, just off the Washington Avenue Corridor, a densely populated mixed-use area. The property's reported use as a short-term rental raised questions about who was staying there at the time of the shooting, though no platform or owner had been publicly identified.
HPD has not released an incident number, a formal press statement, or confirmed the fate of the barricaded suspect.
