A midday crash on Post Oak Place Drive killed two elderly women and sent two others to the hospital Tuesday after a Tesla Cybertruck and a white Buick sedan collided in the Galleria area, Houston police said.

All four women were passengers in the Buick when the collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Post Oak Place Drive at Briar Hollow Lane, a stretch inside the West Loop just north of San Felipe Street and east of I-610. The two women who survived were transported to a hospital, where their conditions remained unknown Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the Cybertruck appeared uninjured and stayed at the scene.

Aerial footage from above the crash site showed front-end damage on both vehicles. HPD Lt. Larry Crowson held a press conference at the scene and offered investigators' early read on what may have caused the wreck. "It does appear the Buick was coming south on Briar Hollow and may have failed to yield right of way," Crowson said. "However, looking at just the damage, it appears the Tesla may have been traveling at a higher rate of speed than legally allowed."

Investigators also believe the Buick may have stopped at the stop sign but then failed to yield before entering the intersection. Neither the possible failure to yield nor the possible speeding has been confirmed as a cause. Crowson told reporters the crash was not the result of a pursuit or road rage.

Officers from HPD's Central and Violent Crimes divisions worked the scene, as did investigators from the department's vehicular crimes division. Investigators were collecting physical evidence Tuesday and said they planned to review data from both vehicles. No one involved in the crash had been identified as of Tuesday afternoon.

Crowson noted that a man and a woman remained at the crash scene, though he did not say whether either was involved in the collision. No charges or citations had been reported as of Tuesday.

HPD asked drivers to avoid the area while the investigation continued.
