Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 6 North, Two Injured
A wrong-way driver died after traveling northbound in southbound lanes on Highway 6 North near Clay Road late Sunday, sending two others to the hospital.

A wrong-way driver was killed and two others hospitalized after a head-on crash on Highway 6 North near Clay Road in northwest Harris County shortly before midnight Sunday, March 8.
Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputy Gosney said units were called to the scene at approximately 11 p.m. The wrong-way driver, described by HCSO as a woman, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when her vehicle struck another car in the middle lanes. The collision sent debris into two additional southbound vehicles, leaving a chain of wreckage across multiple lanes of the highway.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other drivers were taken to area hospitals in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. HCSO has not publicly identified the woman who was killed.
Investigators said the crash remains under investigation and that they have not yet determined whether speed or intoxication were contributing factors.

The crash came on a weekend that saw multiple wrong-way collisions across the Houston region. Earlier the same Sunday morning, a separate wrong-way driver on I-45 in The Woodlands struck a Dodge Durango head-on at an estimated 100 mph, according to wrecker driver Michael Willis, who witnessed that crash. "It's just gut-wrenching," Willis said. "I immediately picked up my phone and dialed 911, trying to get some help." The wrong-way driver in that I-45 crash also died; all three occupants of the Durango were seriously injured.
The pattern of weekend crashes reflects a persistent and worsening problem on Harris County roads. A TxDOT records analysis found 111 people were killed in wrong-way crashes in Harris County over the last decade. In 2024, wrong-way crashes injured 233 people countywide, a 10-year high. A previous investigation identified the I-45 North Freeway corridor as the deadliest stretch for wrong-way collisions in the area.
The Highway 6 investigation is ongoing. HCSO has not announced charges or confirmed whether toxicology samples were collected.
