Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service have been monitoring a contained brush fire in the 9000 block of Kindlewood Trail in Brooksville since it broke out March 21, with smoke conditions continuing to linger in the surrounding area.

The blaze, estimated at approximately 1 acre, was contained but not yet fully extinguished as of Sunday, when HCFR firefighters and Florida Forest Service crews returned to the scene to continue monitoring. Officials asked the public not to report smoke sightings, a precaution intended to prevent unnecessary calls as crews already on the ground manage the remaining conditions.

HCFR posted on Instagram that firefighters were actively working the fire at the 9000 block of Kindlewood Trail, providing the block-level detail that places the incident in a residential stretch of Brooksville. A separate post on X noted that crews were "back out at the scene of Saturdays brush fire," indicating that personnel had made at least one return visit to the site after the initial response.

No vehicle damage or injuries were reported in connection with the Kindlewood Trail fire.

The monitoring operation comes as Hernando County fire crews dealt with a separate brush fire incident this past week. On a Thursday afternoon, HCFR responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the 13000 block of Kanawha Drive, north of Weeki Wachee, where a brush fire had spread to multiple vehicles. Seven vehicles were damaged in that fire and at least two were deemed total losses. Firefighters extinguished the flames before the fire reached additional vehicles parked nearby. The Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the Kanawha Drive fire. HCFR did not report any injuries from that incident.

The two fires are separate incidents with different locations, damage profiles, and responding agencies, and no official source has linked them. Anyone who spots smoke near Kindlewood Trail is asked to hold off on calling it in, as HCFR and the Florida Forest Service remain on the scene.
