The City of Brooksville posted a public notice on its official news page advising residents that two or more city council members may be present at a series of community events and meetings scheduled across March and into spring 2026.

The notice, issued and posted on March 2, 2026, covers a broad range of gatherings, including Employee Appreciation events at City Hall Chambers and the Jerome Brown Community Center, as well as several recurring community staples.

Among the events listed: Friday Night Live at Hernando Park on March 13, April 18, and May 16, running from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Art in the Park at Tom Varn Park on March 14 and 15 as all-day events; a Baby Expo at the Jerome Brown Community Center on March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to noon; the Youth Makers Market in Downtown Brooksville on March 21, April 18, and May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and a Chamber Resident's Reception and Early Literacy Kickball Tournament at Anderson Snow Park on March 28 from 10:00 a.m.

A separate notice on the city's news page lists additional spring events where council member attendance is possible, including the Downtown Street Market in Downtown Brooksville on March 21, April 18, and May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The notices are a standard transparency measure under Florida's Government in the Sunshine Law, which requires public bodies to give advance notice any time two or more members of a governing board may gather in a setting where official business could be discussed, even informally. Because Brooksville's five-member city council conducts formal business at its regular meetings at the Joseph E. Johnston, III Council Chambers at City Hall, 201 Howell Avenue, any informal gathering of multiple members at a community event triggers the same disclosure requirement.

The full council meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 201 Howell Avenue in Brooksville.

Residents with questions about the notices can contact City Clerk Jennifer Battista at (352) 540-3816 or by email at jbattista@cityofbrooksville.us.
