Bunyon Dominates No. 1 Singles as Central Bears Top Nature Coast Tech
Central senior Johnathon Bunyon blanked Nature Coast Tech's top player 6-2, 6-0, but the Sharks swept both doubles matches to dominate the afternoon.

Central High senior Johnathon Bunyon needed just two sets to handle Nature Coast Tech's Troy Stapleton on Tuesday, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles in a district matchup that saw the Bears travel across Brooksville to face the Sharks on their home courts.
Bunyon's straight-sets dismissal of Stapleton was the bright spot in an otherwise difficult afternoon for Central. The Sharks controlled the lower singles brackets, taking wins in brackets two through five, before closing out the day with a clean sweep of both doubles matches.
In doubles, Stapleton and Trieu gave Nature Coast Tech an emphatic 8-0 win over Central's pairing of Hamann and Grimes. The second doubles slot was nearly as lopsided, with Woodruff and McGee defeating Graham and Kian Cremeans 8-1.
First-year Central head coach Tim Pulmadore called Bunyon a "really good player" after the matches, but was candid about where his program stands heading into the heart of the district schedule. "We are very young," Pulmadore said. "A lot of these guys, this is the first time they are playing tennis... So, a lot of these guys are just good athletes that we are trying to teach tennis. So, we are still working on most things."
The coach's assessment tracks with a Bears roster still learning the sport at the competitive high school level. Pulmadore, in his first season leading the program, is building Central's tennis identity from the ground up, leaning on athletes with raw ability while developing their technical game.
Bunyon's 6-2, 6-0 performance at the top of the lineup showed what that development can look like when it clicks. The senior never dropped his serve to Stapleton and closed the match without allowing a single game in the second set, a statement victory that gave Central its clearest result of the afternoon.
