Crash closes all lanes on Spring Hill Drive in Hernando County

All lanes on Spring Hill Drive were shut down just west of Waterfall Drive as Hernando County Fire Rescue and other emergency crews worked a vehicle crash that blocked one of Spring Hill’s busiest corridors. Drivers were told to avoid the area and use alternate routes while multiple emergency vehicles remained on scene.

The blockage hit an area that has seen repeated serious wrecks and road closures in recent years. On Jan. 12, 2025, six people were injured in a crash on Spring Hill Drive in front of Fire Station 5, and on March 28, 2026, a multi-vehicle crash on the same roadway left one person dead and two others injured.

Spring Hill Drive has also been a frequent problem spot near Pinehurst Drive, Horizon Drive, Linden Drive, St. Ives Boulevard, Anderson Snow Road and Waterfall Drive, where Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office have repeatedly warned of traffic backups and extended delays while crews clear the roadway. In past alerts, officials have used social media to push drivers away from crash scenes as lanes were blocked and access slowed.

The latest closure again underscored how quickly a wreck on Spring Hill Drive can ripple through the surrounding neighborhood. Waterfall Drive sits near the active scene, and any driver heading through central Spring Hill, including commuters bound for nearby residential streets and cross-town traffic, faced immediate detours while emergency responders managed the crash site.

Hernando County Fire Rescue, whose mission is to protect life, property and community safety through emergency response and medical services, has repeatedly been called to Spring Hill Drive for serious collisions. Those responses have made the roadway a familiar flashpoint for motorists in Hernando County, where a single crash can shut down all lanes and bring traffic to a standstill until the scene is cleared.

With all lanes blocked west of Waterfall Drive, the most direct advice remained simple: stay out of the area until crews restored access and traffic could move again on Spring Hill Drive.
