A month-long shutdown is about to hit one of Hernando County’s most familiar public health addresses: the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County’s Brooksville office at 300 S Main St. will be closed April 13 through May 10 for facility improvements.

Hernando County posted the closure notice April 6, describing the work as planned maintenance and upgrades intended to improve the office environment and services. A separate DOH-Hernando release dated April 2 listed the same closure window and the same two locations for service continuity.

During the closure, DOH-Hernando said all services will remain available through its Spring Hill office at 7551 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34606. The public phone number for questions and service coordination is 352-540-6800.

The shift matters because the Brooksville office is a common stop for in-person public health needs that can be time-sensitive, including immunizations, health screenings, and vital records requests such as birth and death certificates. DOH-Hernando’s Spring Hill location page lists general operating hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with birth and death certificates available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Other program areas listed for the Spring Hill site include STI/STD services, tuberculosis services, WIC, and environmental public health programs, among additional department offerings.

The county notice urged residents who planned to visit DOH-Hernando during the work window to call ahead or use online service options when possible, particularly for transactions like vital records that may also be handled through web-based or mail-in processes.

For media inquiries related to the temporary closure, DOH-Hernando listed De’More Patrick as the contact at DeMore.Patrick@FLHealth.gov or 352-345-1213.

The closure was described as scheduled rather than emergency-related, with reopening expected after May 10. DOH-Hernando also noted in its release that the department is nationally accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board.
