HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital Earns National Healthgrades Patient Safety Recognition
Brooksville's Oak Hill Hospital is Hernando County's only hospital ranked in the top 5% nationally, now adding a patient safety honor to three straight years of elite Healthgrades recognition.

HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville has earned national patient safety recognition from Healthgrades, the hospital announced this week, adding another distinction to a three-year run of top-tier ratings from one of the country's most widely used hospital evaluation platforms.
Healthgrades recognized Oak Hill as a top performer in patient safety, a designation tied to the organization's Patient Safety Excellence Award, which Healthgrades describes as being "top in the nation for providing excellence in patient safety by preventing infections, medical errors, and other preventable complications." The Brooksville hospital has held the Patient Safety Excellence Award for 2024 and 2025, and has now been recognized again in connection with the March 2026 announcement.
The patient safety honor arrives alongside Oak Hill's third consecutive year on Healthgrades' America's 250 Best Hospitals list, a ranking that places the hospital in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance. According to the hospital, Oak Hill is Hernando County's only hospital to have ranked in that top 5% tier since 2024.
"As one of America's 250 Best Hospitals, Oak Hill Hospital is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. "Healthgrades commends Oak Hill Hospital for their ongoing leadership and commitment to providing the best possible care for all patients in the Hernando County, Florida region."
To illustrate what that designation means in concrete terms, Healthgrades has calculated that from 2021 through 2023, patients treated at America's 250 Best Hospitals had a 31.4% lower risk of dying than patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the award. Over that same period, Healthgrades estimated that 174,081 lives could potentially have been saved if all hospitals had performed at the level of the 250 Best.

Oak Hill's recognition extends well beyond the top-hospital umbrella designation. Healthgrades has separately awarded the Brooksville facility its America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award, America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery Award, and America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostate Surgery Award, each for 2024, 2025, and 2026. In 2025, Oak Hill also received Healthgrades' America's 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Excellence Award, which recognizes superior outcomes across 15 common in-hospital surgical procedures including cardiac, vascular, spine, and gastrointestinal surgeries.
Within Florida, Healthgrades ranks Oak Hill third in the state for prostate surgery, fourth for joint replacement surgery, and fifth for orthopedic surgery.
One data point in Oak Hill's Healthgrades profile warrants context: the hospital's patient experience rating currently sits at 58%, which Healthgrades notes is 8% below the national average. That figure, which reflects patient-reported experience measures, stands in contrast to the hospital's consistently strong clinical outcome scores, the metrics that drive the award designations above.
For Hernando County residents weighing where to seek care for orthopedic, spine, or surgical procedures, the accumulation of Healthgrades recognitions over three consecutive years represents a sustained pattern of measured performance rather than a single-year result.
