Hernando County Libraries Offer NASA Science, STEM, and Tax Help This April
Free NASA citizen-science events and no-cost tax filing help headlined a packed spring slate at the Hernando County Spring Hill library branch.

The Spring Hill Branch kicked off a science-heavy April with a Do NASA Science Live! event on April 2, drawing library patrons into a nationwide NASA citizen-science initiative that brings real space-research activities into community settings. The following two days, April 3 and 4, the same branch hosted Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinics, offering free tax-filing help to residents who arrived with photo ID, Social Security cards or ITIN documentation for all household members, wage statements, and a copy of the prior year's return.
The back-to-back programming reflects the breadth of what the Hernando County Public Library system is running this month across its four locations: Main, Spring Hill, West, and East branches. Baby Storytime and Preschool Storytime are continuing at the West and Spring Hill branches, while a STEAM Lab and Lego Club fill the school-age and teen portion of the calendar. The adult schedule includes Computer Class: Email 2, pitched at users ready to move beyond basic inbox management, and Money Management sessions focused on identity theft.
The West Hernando Branch is also hosting a Butterfly Observation exhibit, threading a nature-science strand through a month that has otherwise leaned heavily on space and technology programming. Do NASA Science Live! operates as part of a coordinated national citizen-science program, meaning the Spring Hill event connected local participants to the same research framework used by library branches and schools across the country.

For VITA sessions, the documentation checklist mattered: photo ID, Social Security cards or ITIN numbers for every household member, all wage and income statements, deduction documents, and last year's return if available. STEAM Labs, computer classes, and other limited-capacity offerings require advance registration, and the library system's online calendar remains the most reliable source for current availability and any late changes to the April schedule.
