Kevin Christopher Hanrahan, 50, was sentenced to life in the Florida Department of Corrections on December 18, 2025 after a jury found him guilty following an October trial of lewd and lascivious conduct and four counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child under 12. The Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office handled the prosecution that led to the life sentence.

The investigation began in January 2024 when the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sex offense involving two children. Deputies and detectives interviewed both juvenile victims, who described two separate incidents involving Hanrahan’s illicit behavior. At the time the report was made both victims were still wearing the same clothing they had worn during the alleged offenses. Investigators collected the garments for forensic analysis, and later found Hanrahan’s DNA on the inside of one victim’s shorts. That physical evidence played a central role in the case presented at trial.

The conviction and sentence serve as a stark reminder of the serious legal consequences for crimes against children and the impact such cases have on local families. For Hernando County residents the outcome underscores the importance of reporting suspected abuse promptly, and of preserving possible evidence when it is safe to do so. The case also demonstrates coordination between the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in pursuing prosecutions of crimes against minors.

Beyond the courtroom, the sentencing touches families and the wider community. Survivors of child sexual abuse often require long term medical and mental health support, and the presence of local resources and responsive law enforcement can shape recovery and future prevention efforts. The life sentence handed down on December 18 will keep Hanrahan in state custody for the remainder of his life, reflecting the gravity with which the criminal justice system treated these convictions.
