Hernando County offices, transit and libraries close for Memorial Day

Hernando County residents who need permits, a bus ride or a library visit will have to finish those errands before Memorial Day. County government offices, Transit Services through TheBus and all library services will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, and will reopen at regular hours Tuesday, May 26.

The holiday pause reaches beyond the courthouse. The West Hernando Solid Waste Convenience Center and the East Hernando Solid Waste Convenience Center will be closed Monday, as usual, so anyone planning a trash or yard-waste trip will need to go another day. The Main Landfill, at 14450 Landfill Rd. in Brooksville, will remain open on Memorial Day, giving residents one county disposal option that does not stop for the holiday.

Curbside collection will continue on schedule. Coastal Waste & Recycling will provide trash, recycling and yard waste pickup as regularly scheduled on Monday, and the county has directed residents with service questions to call Coastal Waste & Recycling at (352) 540-6457. The timing matters for more than just convenience. Anyone needing an in-person county office visit, a document pickup or a transit trip should plan ahead because standard weekday access will not be available during the holiday. The county’s 2026 Board of County Commissioners holiday schedule lists Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, and the Hernando County Public Library System’s 2026 closed-dates calendar also marks that day as closed. Hernando County has used the same Memorial Day pattern before, including last year’s notice that closed the same convenience centers and left the Main Landfill open.
