Hernando County to open new Tax Collector office with community fair

Residents going to Hernando County’s new Spring Hill Tax Collector office will be able to do far more than pose for photos at a ribbon cutting. The county and the Tax Collector’s Office will host a Community Resource Fair at 7701 Forest Oaks Blvd. on Saturday, June 27, from 9 to 11 a.m., giving people a single stop for county services, voter help, health information and other public resources.

The new Spring Hill Westside Branch Center is set up to handle driver license services, motor vehicle and boat titles and registrations, hunting and fishing licenses, and property and tangible tax collection. Hernando County also says the office serves Florida birth certificate needs. For many west-side residents, that means routine government business will be handled at the Forest Oaks Boulevard site instead of requiring a trip farther across the county.

The fair is being organized as a community event as much as an office opening. Library card signups, voter registration assistance, blood donation through the LifeSouth Blood Mobile and health information from the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County will all be available. Food trucks, a DJ and children’s activities are also planned, turning the morning into a neighborhood-style gathering around a government service center.

The building’s driving range is one of its most practical features. County materials say the range is intended to support the driving-test process tied to a Florida driver license, while the county’s driver-license page says road tests are not available at the location and that certain driving-test appointments are handled there. That makes the new site more than a standard front counter, giving Hernando County a place to do more of the licensing process on site.

Attendees will also be able to tour the building and the driving range after the ribbon cutting. Parking will be arranged at the nearby Department of Health lot. The Tax Collector’s Office says no mail is accepted at the Forest Oaks Boulevard address.

The opening follows a March relocation notice that said the Westside office reopened at the new location on March 3 at 8 a.m., after a temporary closure for the move. County background materials describe the Tax Collector as an elected constitutional officer responsible for collecting taxes set by local taxing authorities, which helps explain why the office remains a central piece of everyday county government. A prior project timeline had pointed to a fall 2025 completion, making the June unveiling a delayed but important addition to the county’s western service network.
