Hernando County Unveils Veterans Monument Honoring Military Sacrifice in Spring Hill
County Commissioner Brian Hawkins, a Navy veteran, helped fund a new Spring Hill monument featuring flags from every U.S. military branch, set to open March 31.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, will mark the official opening of a new Veterans Monument at Veterans Memorial Park, 12254 Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill, giving Hernando County veterans a permanent place of remembrance steps from one of the community's most-traveled corridors.
The ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public, with Hernando County Government specifically inviting active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families. Guest speakers will offer remarks recognizing both the monument's significance and the service of those who have worn a uniform.
The monument will feature flags representing each branch of the United States military and is designed to serve as a lasting site of reflection for veterans and their families. The project was funded in part through the support of County Commissioner Brian Hawkins and the Hawkins family.

Hawkins, who served in the U.S. Navy before entering county government, described the memorial in personal terms. "I am deeply honored, both as a County Commissioner and as a U.S. Navy Veteran, to support a project that recognizes the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country," he said. "This monument is a lasting tribute to our veterans and a place where our community can come together to reflect, remember, and show our gratitude for their service."
